Getting Rid of House Mold

Molds are microscopic organisms that thrive in moist, humid areas often not exposed to direct sunlight. They thrive on organic matter and water. Usually, house mold grow when the house has water damage or leaks in the indoor pipes which can not be easily seen by the people living in it. Any little spray or drop of water can contribute to a mold colony. The wood that is used for building materials are organic matter which molds feed on.

Spotting House Mold

House mold usually manifest itself as black or any different color mold. They thrive in optimum conditions and eat their way slowly but surely around the organic matter they have grown on. House mold can be dangerous to people because molds often excrete toxins that are deadly to us and animals. Continuous exposure to these toxins can kill a person through inhalation or ingestion.

Your walls or flooring or even the ceilings can start to have house mold when there is a leak or even the slightest moisture present. When you start to see dark spots which are continually growing on parts of your house, this could mean molds in between walls or ceilings of your house.

Getting Rid Of House Molds

The best way to get rid of house mold would be to inspect the entire area and see if the damage is extensive or relatively small. If the mold colony is still small you can do the mold removal on your own. There are several things that you need to keep in mind when removing molds. You must not physically touch them with bare skin so wear gloves and you must be careful inhaling in their vicinity. Please wear a mask when trying to remove house mold.

A mixture of 1 cup strong bleach and a gallon of water with some detergent mixed in can get rid of molds, although, some house mold may still be present in the wood where they are attached. In cases like these where the molds have virtually seeped into the wood, you must change the wood of the ceiling or wall to avoid repeat infestation of the molds. Some house mold is resistant to disinfectant and may just be temporarily stopped from growing by the application of the disinfectant.

Safety is a priority when doing your own mold removal. Do not touch the mold or inhale in their vicinity since spores may enter your nasal passages or land on your oral cavity. Wear protective gear when doing your house mold removal.
